Two Pirates Named SCAC All-Conference Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Two Southwestern University women's soccer student-athletes were named to the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Team on Tuesday morning.

In exclusive voting by the head women's soccer coaches of the SCAC, sophomores Mallory Harkins and Mary Cardone were each named to the team with Harkins earning first team honors while Cardone was named to the second team.

Harkins, a sophomore from Ausitn, Texas, played in 14 matches and was the top defender for the Pirates all season long. She was a major part to the defensive improvement throughout the conference season as the Pirate defense was fourth in goals against average and helping the Pirates surge late in the season to get into the conference tournament.

Cardone, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, battled injuries throughout the season, playing in only eight matches and starting in four. She was terrific, finishing with 34 saves and only allowing 1.11 goals-against average. She capped her season off with a tremendous game in the conference tournament, picking up 14 saves in a scoreless shutout against Centenary.
