Pirates Fall in Overtime to Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Southwestern University women's soccer team outshot the Centenary Ladies 22-14 on Sunday afternoon, but could not find a go-ahead goal as Centenary scored an early goal in overtime to pick up a 1-0 win over the Pirates.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Pirates got off nine shots in the period, but neither team could push ahead in regulation.

Just a little over a minute into overtime, Centenary's Kyra Montes found her self on a breakaway, 1 on 1 with the keeper, and finished it home to end the game and earn the home win for the Ladies.

For Southwestern, senior Angelica Grayson led the offensive attack with six shots while senior Malorie Lara, senior Ana Gutierrez, and sophomore Romie Reyna all had two shots on the afternoon. The Pirates put together a solid defensive effort, keeping Centenary scoreless in regulation, but could not finish it in overtime.

Senior Kylie Hunt played the first half, making two saves, while freshman Shay Kana handled the second half and overtime period, also coming away with two saves.

Southwestern falls to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in SCAC play. They will return home on Friday evening as they welcome in Schreiner for a SCAC matchup beginning at 5:00 PM.
