Pirates Can't Overcome Early Deficit in Loss to Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas - The Southwestern University women's soccer team found themselves in a quick 2-0 whole, five minutes into their SCAC matchup with Austin College and could never recover on the road as they fell to the 'Roos, 4-1, on Friday evening.

The 'Roos increased the lead to 3-0 before senior Mady Akers cut the deficit down to 3-1 in the 81st minute with her first goal of the 2017 season. Austin College added one more late in the second half to put the game away and take the 4-1 win.

Despite the tough outing, the shots were even on the night with both teams taking 19 shots with Southwestern holding a 10-9 advantage in shots on target.

Freshman Alli Moff led the attack with three shots while senior Brenda Pedroza had two. Senior Kylie Hunt got the start in goal, finishing with two saves while freshman Shay Kana came in goal later in the contest and picked up three saves.

The Pirates fall to 0-5 and 0-2 in the SCAC, but will look to bounce back on Sunday as they take on Centenary at 12 PM in Shreveport.
