'Roos top Pirates on senior day

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Eight seniors saw their final home action on Sunday, falling 1-0 to Austin College.

A quiet first half that saw just six shots total between the two teams gave way to a furious second half. AC had a corner kick off their first possession and Southwestern responded with a shot from Hannah Neil that went wide left.

Austin fired back and got their first goal just two minutes in. Kat Harrington played the ball across the face of goal from the right and found Mary Katherine Bond on the far post. Bond's one-touch shot was perfect as it found the back of the net to put AC up 1-0.

As the half continued Southwestern turned the pressure up and got multiple shots at goal but weren't able to convert on any as the game wound under ten minutes to play.

SU wasn't able to score the equalizer as the final buzzer sounded. The Pirates trailed by just one in the shot count 11-10, but had two fewer saves and three fewer corners in the loss.

Southwestern falls to 5-10-2 on the year and 5-5-1 in the SCAC while Austin improves to 10-7 and 6-5, moving AC a half game ahead of the Pirates and into fourth place, knocking SU down to fifth. SU has one more chance to affect their standing as they head to San Antonio to face nationally-ranked Trinity on Friday at 7pm.
