Pirates lose to TLU in double OT

SEGUIN, Texas – After a scoreless 107 minutes, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs stole the win at home over Southwestern 1-0.

Southwestern kept the Bulldog defense busy in the first half. Five of their first six shots were on target, but TLU made the plays needed to keep the game even.

TLU was strong at the beginning of the second half, blazing shots at Katherine Rodgers in goal. Rodgers was tough and made the saves and the game remained scoreless and rolled into extra time.

Shots by Mackenzie Millican and Megan McGrath were saved in the second half while TLU got off two shots as well, through neither was on goal.

The Bulldogs took the win with two minutes to play in the final overtime as Marisol Ramos scored her first goal of the season on a quick counter attack, assisted by Sioned Kirkpatrick.

Southwestern trailed 16-19 in shots but had two more corner kicks. Rodgers posted four saves in goal and TLU's Rose six.

The loss drops the Pirates to 5-9-1 on the year and 5-3 in the SCAC while TLU improves to 7-7-1 overall and 6-3 in conference action. TLU jumps ahead of Southwestern in the SCAC standings as the Bulldogs take over third place and SU falls to fourth. The Pirates can further seal their post season berth with a win on Sunday against Schreiner University. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Kerrville.
