Women’s soccer falls in home opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas – A pair of first half goals was all Whitworth need in the battle of the Pirates as Southwestern fell 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

SU got good looks early, but their two best shots went high and wide of target and out of harm's way. A breakaway goal in the 8th minute by Tiara Pajimola gave the Whitworth Pirates the lead early in the contest.

Just seven minutes before halftime WU's Lindsey Foster played the ball behind the SU Pirate defense to Leah Corra who beat Katherine Rodgers in goal for the 2-0 lead.

Southwestern continued to press but were unable to get on the board in the second half.

Whitworth led 12-4 in the shot count while Southwestern led 4-2 in saves. Backup keeper Kylie Hunt led with three saves in 30 minutes of action in goal.

The loss drops Southwestern to 0-4 on the year while Whitworth improves to 2-1-1 on the year. SU returns to the pitch to face Hendrix College on Sunday at noon.
