Pirates close California trip with 2-0 loss

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Southwestern women’s soccer fell 2-0 to Occidental College, closing out their opening weekend with an 0-2 record.

Southwestern struggled in the first half as their offense was quieted and Occidental controlled the momentum. The Pirate defense was able to keep the game scoreless, however, heading into halftime.

In the 57th minute, Occidental broke the stalemate as Alana Hillman placed the ball in the back of the net. Julie Khil and Camille Shrager teamed up to score the second goal of the game with just over 14 minutes remaining.

SU did manage five second half shots, but trailed 17-5 in the overall shot count. Katherine Rodgers recorded five saves in the loss while Kirsten Mazur and Angel Grayson recorded one shot on goal each.

Now 0-2 on the season, Southwestern comes home for the first time this season to face Whitworth on Friday at 11 am.
