LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – In exclusive voting by the head women's soccer coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Sarah Bevins was tabbed as the Co-Newcomer-of-the-Year as the SCAC announced the All-SCAC Women's Soccer voting.
Sarah Bevins, a first-year forward from Austin, Texas, was third among all conference first-year players (11th overall) in scoring with 19 points on seven goals and five assists. She was second on her own team in scoring and was SCAC Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week in Week 8 when she had four goals in two conference wins, including a hat trick in a 4-0 win against Centenary College. She also earned a Second Team All-SCAC nod.
For the second year in a row, Lindsay Jakszta was a First Team All-SCAC selection. Jakszta was sixth in the SCAC in goals scored with 11 and tied for fourth with seven assists, placing her sixth in points with 29. In her final season she posted a .167 shot percentage and .515 shots on goal percentage with four game winning goals.
Mariah Escajeda also earned a spot on the First Team All-SCAC ending the year fifth in the SCAC in saves, recording 77 in her first season as a Pirate. She was also third in goals allowed with 22 and tied for second in goals against average at 1.43. Escajeda had five shutouts in goal this year in 18 starts and 1382 minutes.
Joining Bevins on the second team were sophomore Kirsten Mazur, senior Kylie O'Connor and junior Allie Dillon. Mazur assisted on one goal and took one shot, on goal, from the defensive line this season. O'Connor posted one goal and four assists, tied for third most on the team, for six points. She took 28 shots, 10 goal and had one game winning goal. Dillon also posted one goal and four assists for six points this season. She added 19 shots with nine being on goal.
First-years Megan McGrath and Hayley Miesse earned Honorable Mention honors this season. Miesse was third on the team in points with seven, scoring two goals, one game winner, with three assists. She rocketed off 17 shots with nine being on goal from the midfield. McGrath scored one goal on 12 shots with six being on goal in her first season with the Pirates.
Southwestern ended the year at 10-9-1 overall and advanced to their first SCAC Conference Final, falling to nationally-ranked Trinity.
