The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Senior Lindsay Jakszta secured a spot on the team, a first for a Southwestern women's soccer player.
Jakszta has been a huge part of the Pirate teams since her first year on campus and has risen to one of the most well-respected players on the team as evidenced by her selection as team captain this season.
Jakszta is currently leading the Pirates in every offensive category with 11 goals, seven assists, 29 points and 60 shots. She is tied for fifth in the conference in goals and tied for fourth in assists as she led the Pirates to their best conference season ever with a 9-3 overall record.
A star in the classroom as well, Jakszta is majoring in psychology and touts a 3.90 grade point average.
Southwestern enters the post-season as the #2 seed and earn a first-round bye. They play their first match in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday with game times and match-ups to be released later today.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in November.
