Southwestern women strong in 1-0 win over TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - The Pirate women outshot the Bulldogs 19-5 on Sunday afternoon to record their ninth conference victory of the season.

Southwestern dominated the tempo of the game in the first half and took ten shots while holding TLU to just two but were unable to put any home as the half came to a close scoreless.

The Pirates continued to press and seek out the go-ahead goal and got what they were looking for as Lindsay Jakszta fed Hayley Miesse deep in Bulldog territory. Miesse beat TLU's keeper Erin Rose to the ball and put the game winner in the back of the net in the 73rd minute.

Southwestern led 19-5 in the shot count and 6-1 in corner kicks for the match. Mariah Escajeda posted her third shutout of the season with four saves in goal.

With one game to play in the conference schedule, Southwestern remains in second place, with no chance of falling out of the #2 slot, at 9-2 in SCAC action and 10-7 overall. They close out the regular season by hosting league-leading and conference-rival Trinity on Friday night at 6 p.m.
