Pirate women tie record for most conference wins

KERRVILLE, Texas - With a 2-0 win over Schreiner, the Southwestern women's soccer team broke the record for most conference wins with eight, besting the seven SCAC wins of the 2007 squad.

Southwestern burst out of the gate and quickly took control offensively and earned three straight corner kicks in the first five and a half minutes of the game. While none were fruitful, it spelled doom for the Mountaineers and SU quickly made it a reality.

After their fourth offside call, Southwestern found the magic in the 28th minute as Kylie O'Connor punched the ball home, assisted by Allie Dillon, to put SU up 1-0.

Southwestern closed the half with a 1-0 lead, allowing just two Schreiner shots in the half while taking six.

It wasn't long into the second half until Southwestern extended their lead to two, 2-0, on an unassisted goal by Lindsay Jakszta. Her 11th goal of the season gave the Pirates some cushion and allowed SU's defense to do what they do best, securing the fifth shutout of the season.

Southwestern had 11 total shots while Schreiner took just six, four on goal, in the loss. Mariah Escajeda had four saves while her counterpart, De La Torre, had six.

The Pirates improve to 9-7 on the year and 8-2 in the SCAC while Schreiner falls to 1-14 overall and 1-9 in conference play. Southwestern has their final conference road game on Sunday in Kerrville, facing Texas Lutheran at noon.
