Women's soccer wins 2-1 over Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas - Southwestern scored two goals in the first half and controlled the second half to win 2-1 over Austin College on Friday night.

Southwestern confidently managed the pace of play in the first half, carefully planning their points of attack until Sarah Bevins, assisted by Lindsay Jakszta and Kylie O'Connor, gave Southwestern a lead they wouldn't lose in the 22nd minute.

Jakszta continued her scoring spree with Southwestern's second goal, punching the ball home from Hayley Miesse in the 38th minute, putting the Pirates up 2-0 before halftime.

The Pirates continued to attack and easily controlled the ball, but Austin College's Lauren Scott snuck one past SU's defense to pull within one goal with just nine minutes to play in the game. Southwestern was determined to maintain the lead and did just that as they closed out the game for a 2-1 win.

Southwetern took four more shots, 14-10 and two more corners, 7-5. Mariah Escajeda and Katherine Rodgers split time in goal and had one save.

The Pirates improve to 7-7 on the year and 6-2 in the SCAC. They remain on the road to face Centenary College on Sunday afternoon.
