Pirates fall to #4 Trinity on road

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Southwestern women's soccer put up a strong showing on Tuesday evening but fell 3-0 to one of the top ranked teams in the nation.

The Pirates came out with an attacking mindset as they got off not only the first shot of the match, but also the first shot on goal, as Sarah Bevins took a shot on frame that was saved by Lauren Goldberg.

SU kept going as Kylie O'Connor's shot was blocked just three minutes later.

Trinity was sparked into action at that point as they turned up the attack and got the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute.

The Tigers made it a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute as Mariah Risk snuck one past the Pirate defense that had fended off numerous attacks since the first goal.

The half came to a close with Southwestern trailing 2-0 and Trinity picked up where they left off and pushed their lead to three in the 64th minute and closed out the match to hand SU the 3-0 loss.

Southwestern's Mariah Escajeda was tough in goal as she recorded eight saves in the match on 28 Tiger shots, 11 on goal.

Southwestern falls to 5-7 on the year and 4-2 in the SCAC. They return home to open the second half of conference play on Sunday, facing the University of Dallas at noon.
