Women’s soccer ousts Ladies

GEORGETOWN, Texas - With a win over Centenary College the Pirate women's soccer team improved to 3-1 in the SCAC.

Southwestern started attacking early, taking four shots in the first 17 minutes of the contest, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Their hard work paid off with 13 minutes to play in the first half as SU took advantage of a penalty kick awarded from a Centenary handball in the box. Lindsay Jakszta addressed the ball with confidence and buried it into the back of the net, giving Southwestern a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Pirates continued to look ahead and extended their lead with another Jakszta goal. Kylie O'Connor sent a lofting cross into the box and Jakszta put it home to give SU some cushion 2-0 in the 54th minute.

Even with a comfortable lead the Pirates weren't done as Hannah Neil, assisted by Carol Bentley, put home one more goal in the 83rd minute to send Centenary home with the 3-0 loss.

Southwestern dominated the shot count 23-6 and took two corner kicks while allowing none. Mariah Escajeda had a quiet night in goal with just one save while Centenary's Coker posted 11 saves in the loss.

The Pirates improve to 4-6 on the year and 3-1 in the SCAC. They hit the road for the first time in over a month to face the University of Dallas on Sunday at noon.
