Resnik’s goal keeps Pirates perfect

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Despite a dominating performance on the pitch the Pirates defeated Centenary College 1-0 to remain unbeaten in conference play.

It was just over one minute into the second half when the Pirates seized the lead. Matthew Nickell brought the ball up from the backfield and fed Steven Resnik who broke through the defense and sent the ball into the back of the net for the game winner in the 47th minute.

Southwestern took 10 shots in the opening frame and 18 in the second while allowing just two shots each half to the Gents. Resnik was huge for the Pirates, not only scoring the game-winner, but also taking six shots, four on frame to lead the attack for SU.

Daniel Poole earned the win in goal with three saves while Whan garnered the loss with seven saves. The Pirates had an astounding 16 corner kicks and gave up just one.

With the win SU improves to 7-4 on the year and 5-0 in the SCAC. With one more conference win the Pirates will match their best ever start to the SCAC season since starting 6-0 in 2010. They return to the pitch on Friday, facing Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. for an 8 p.m. kickoff.
