Women's soccer falls to UT-Tyler, 1-0

GEORGETOWN – A late surge by the Southwestern University women's soccer team was not enough as they were unable to snap their two-game skid falling to UT-Tyler, 1-0, Sunday afternoon on the Southwestern campus.

Neither team was able to muster much offense in the first half although the Patriots out-shot the Pirates 9-4. Both teams continued to battle taking a 0-0 tie into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half the Patriots controlled most of the period. With 9 shots on goal, UT-Tyler managed to break the scoreless tie in the 55th minute on an Alyssa Quini goal from Chana Forstall. Quini snuck her shot in past the Pirate goalkeeper inside the left side of the box giving the Patriots the 1-0 lead.

Southwestern did manage to control the ball late in the second half, but Macy Hurley came up with several crucial saves to record the shutout.

Mariah Escajeda also recorded five saves as she played a huge roll in keep the game close.

The Pirates continue their September home stand as they host Schreiner Friday to open SCAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. as SU will look to snap its three-game losing streak.
