Win Streak Continues for Women’s Soccer

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern women's soccer extended their winning streak on Sunday to five with a 1-0 win over Austin College.

Steady attacks highlighted the first half as both teams had decent looks at goal, but neither team was able to put one away as the clock ticked under ten minutes. Each team was looking for the other to make a mistake to take advantage of, but AC and SU both held strong as the game remained knotted at 0-0 heading into halftime.

Southwestern escaped unscathed after a foul just outside of the box as #7 shot on the direct free kick careened off the crossbar and out of harm's way to keep the game scoreless with 36 minutes to play in the second half.

SU got the break they needed as Austin College's physical play caught up with them when Southwestern was tackled in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Pirates. Lindsay Jakszta confidently took the free kick and placed the ball into the lower left corner for the go-ahead goal.

Austin had a few opportunities with free kicks deep in Pirate territory, but the 'Roos couldn't reign in their shots, keeping Southwestern in the lead 1-0.

Southwestern buckled down and let their defense close out the win, moving SU to 6-8 on the season, 4-2 in the SCAC.

The Pirates narrowly outshot Austin College 10-9 and posted three corner kicks while allowing two. Sarah Nonaka recorded four saves in goal while Emily Brockette posted one.

Southwestern returns to non-conference action on Tuesday as they host Texas Lutheran University at 7 p.m.
