Early Goal Lifts Pirates Past Tornados

AUSTIN, Texas - For the second time the Pirates scored in the seventh minute and hung on to the lead to defeat Concordia University on Saturday afternoon, 1-0. The win moves Southwestern to 1-0-1 on the season.

Kylie O'Connor broke away from the pack and took a bullet shot that was saved by CUA's keeper Olivia Jablinski. Jablinski wasn't able to secure the ball and Rebecca Petro (pictured) was there to put away the rebound for the only goal of the afternoon.

Veteran keeper Sarah Nonaka was once again strong in goal, making six saves on the afternoon. The Pirates were out-shot in the conteste 15-11 and had three fewer corner kicks than the Tornados (7-4).

Southwestern returns home to face their toughest challenge of the season on Tuesday afternoon, facing defending national-champion Hardin-Simmons. The Pirates were one of three teams to score on the Cowgirls last season. Game time is slated for 3pm.
