Women's Lacrosse Falls to Oglethorpe University

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Lacrosse (1-1) fell on the road to the Oglethorpe University Petrels (9-4) on Thursday night. Both offenses opened up the scoring column in the first quarter, going for a combined fifteen goals between the two teams. However, the Pirates's defense was unable to stop the Petrels throughout the game, leaving the final margin at 14-24 in favor of Oglethorpe. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Cecilla Cantu led the Pirates in assists and tied for overall points, going for five goals and two assists.
  • Raquel Kurth also had seven points and led the Pirates in goals with six against the Petrels. 
  • Liana Collins recorded a hat trick in the game, scoring three goals on five shots. 

NOTES

  • Goaltender Emma Bethke scooped up nine groundballs, leading the Pirates in that category. Bethke also led both teams in saves with eight. 
  • Oglethorpe won the draw control battle in the contest, taking twenty-five draws compared to the Pirates' thirteen.
  • R'Yani Vaughn and Ashlyn Cadena each had one caused turnover of the Pirate's seven total.
