Cook named IWLS Defensive Player of the Week

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Colorado College's Steph Kelly repeated as the Independent Women's Lacrosse Schools (IWLS) Offensive Player of the week, while Southwestern University's Allison Cook won the Defensive Player of the Week Awards for the week ending March 11, 2018 by a vote of the Independent Schools' Coaches.  This is the second time that both Kelly and Cook have garnered the Player of the Week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week

Steph Kelly, Colorado College, Sr., Attacker

Kelly, a senior from St. Louis, MO notched another excellent week leading Colorado College to a 2-1 home-stand and raising the Tigers overall record to 4-2.  Kelly contributed 11 goals, five assists, 13 draw control, three ground balls and one caused turnover in wins against Montclair State (16-14) and Rensselaer (13-9), along with a 17-9 setback against St. John Fisher.  Kelly's best game came in the Tigers' win against Montclair State University recording seven goals, two assists, six draw controls, and one ground ball.

Defensive Player of the Week

Allison Cook, Southwestern University, Sr., Midfielder

Cook, a senior from Chesterfield, MO, has become the defensive anchor for Southwestern this year with her excellent play.  She scooped up nine ground balls, possessed eight draw controls and was responsive for seven caused turnovers in Southwestern's 14-13 loss to Aurora University last week.  She also chipped in a goal and an assist for the game. As of March 13, NCAA Division III stats rank Cook 17th for ground balls averaging 6.57 per game, and 27th for caused turnovers averaging 3.86 per game.

Colorado College continues its nine-game home stretch playing host to three games this week.  The Tigers end the week against Mount Holyoke College on Friday (3/16) at 10:00 a.m., and will host a double-header of games against Hamline University at 11:00 a.m. and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday (3/18).  

Southwestern University plays host to three games this week as well.  The Pirates had an 11-10 setback on Tuesday (3/13) to Concordia University of Wisconsin and will host University of Puget Sound on Thursday (3/15) at 6:00 p.m. and Sewanee: The University of the South on Sunday (3/18) at 10:30 a.m.
