Tigers open game with flurry of goals to defeat SU

Colorado College opened the game on an 8-0 run and held on to defeat Southwestern women's lacrosse on Friday in McMinnville, Ore.

After the opening 14 minutes SU found themselves in a hole but refused to give up as Courtney Ragland got the Pirates on the board with an unassisted goal with 14:48 to play in the half. Two more Tiger goals increased CC's lead, but Kate Davis and Allison Schmitt scored in the final six minutes and sent Southwestern into the locker room trailing 11-3.

CC started the second half in similar fashion as the first, scoring three straight to lead 14-3 with 26 minutes remaining. Mary Jalufka and Ragland scored back to back goals but SU was unable to lengthen the rally any further, falling 21-8.

SU was outshot 38-15 and was led by Ragland with three goals on four shots. Katilyn Campbell added two goals. Defensively, SU collected nine fewer ground balls (18-9) but committed six fewer turnovers in the loss. Adrienne Dodd picked up three ground balls to lead Southwestern.

With the loss the Pirates fall to 7-8 on the year while Colorado College improves to 9-7 overall. They return to action on Sunday, facing Pacific College at 11 am PST.
