Game of runs falls against Pirates

Southwestern closed the game with four unanswered goals but came up short in a 14-12 loss to North Central College on Sunday in Illinois.

Allison Cook got the Pirates started on the right note with a goal six minutes in, but North Central quickly responded and closed the half on a 6-3 run to send the Pirates into the break down 6-4.

NCC opened the second half with a goal and the two teams traded goals until North Central rattled off five unanswered to lead 14-8 with 13:24 to play.

Southwestern's Kaitlyn Campbell kicked off the Pirates' run, scoring with 11:32 to play. Albin assisted on the goal and then scored herself to pull the Pirates within four with nine minutes remaining. Courtney Ragland punched home two in the final seven minutes but the Pirates couldn't complete the comeback, falling 14-12.

SU led 28-23 in shots and had three fewer turnovers in the loss. The Pirates were just 1-3 on free position shots and picked up 13 fewer ground balls. Kate Davis led the scoring for the Pirates with five goals.

The loss drops Southwestern to 6-6 on the year while North Central improves to 5-1. The Pirates return to action on April 10th, facing Goucher College at 5 pm on the road.
