Boxers top Pirates

Forest Grove, Ore. - Pacific proved to be too strong for the Pirates as SU fell 19-5 in their second game of the road trip on Thursday night.

Pacific shot out of the gate, scoring less than 30 seconds into the contest and added one more goal before the Pirates struck. Madison Wiederecht put Southwestern on the board with an unassisted goal, but Pacific then rattled off four straight to extend their lead to five, 6-1.

Kaitlyn Campbell, Wiederecht and Paige Summers all scored goals in response to Boxer goals to keep the Pirates within striking distance, but Pacific closed the half on a 4-0 run to send SU into the locker room down 11-4.

As the second half got underway Pacific picked up where they left off, scoring just moments in and never allowed the Pirates a chance at a comeback, holding SU to just one second half goal.

Southwestern trailed 33-9 in shots and were successful in just half of their clear attempts. Pacific won 18 of the 26 draw controls and picked up 11 more ground balls.

Campbell and Wiederecht led offensively with two goals each while Christina Rosendahl picked up a team high five ground balls. Defensively, Anne Brown caused three turnovers while Caitlyn Stanyard recorded eight saves in goal.

Southwestern falls to 3-4 on the year after the loss. They close out their West coast road trip on Saturday, facing Linfield at 1pm.
