Linsey Garza Wins SCAC Preview

BLANCO, Texas — Linsey Garza edged out teammate Madison Goldberg to win the SCAC Preview individual title, with the pair leading Southwestern women's golf to a second-place finish with a score of 652. 

Garza and Goldberg each scored a 79 in the first round to enter today tied for second. They each improved on their performance by one stroke to score a 78, overtaking first-day leader Caterina Mora Adrover, who fell off her first-round pace by five strokes to finish in fourth, behind fellow Trinity Tiger Kiona Hsiu. 

The pair of Pirates tied for first with Garza claiming the overall victory on the first playoff hole, making par on the par 4 No. 18 hole. Garza led the field with six birdies, while Goldberg was a model of consistency, making par 21 times. 

Ryleigh Erickson improved on her first-round performance by three strokes, scoring an 80 to finish at a combined 163, which placed her in sixth place, moving up from eighth. Sarah Lucido finished at 175, placing 14th, and Madison Miller shot a combined 184, finishing in 17th. 

Trinity placed three in the top five to win the event with a combined score of 648. St. Thomas followed in third place, followed by Trinity's B Team. 

Southwestern will return to action on Monday, April 12, through Tuesday, April 13, hosting the West Region Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club. They'll return to Blanco for the SCAC Championships on Monday, April 19, through Tuesday, April 20.
