Women's Golf Trails Only Hardin-Simmons After First Round of Rockwind Links Intercollegiate

HOBBS, N.M. — The Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team finished the first round of the Rockwind Links Intercollegiate in second place, trailing Hardin-Simmons University by eight strokes. 

Sophomore transfer Madison Goldberg and first year Linsey Garza paced the Pirates with a tie for third place, scoring a 79 to end the round seven over par. Hardin-Simmons' Baylee Oehlert is the individual leader with a 70, finishing two under. 

Emily Campbell finished the round just outside the top 10, ending in a three-way tie for 13th with a score of 83. Sarah Lucido ended one stroke off that with an 84. Madison Miller rounded out the Pirates' lineup with a score of 88, good for a four-way tie for 23rd. 

Goldberg currently leads the field in Par 4 scoring at two over and Garza ends the first round second in Par 5 scoring a two under with one eagle. Campbell has been steady, leading the event with 11 pars. 

Katherine Montgomery, competing as an individual at the event, shot a 96 in the first round.
