Leilani McDaniel Finishes First At Abilene Intercollegiate Golf Invitational

ABILENE, Texas — Leilani McDaniel led the Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team with a strong performance at the Abilene Intercollegiate Invitational, finishing first overall on the leaderboard. 

After shooting a 78 in the first round, McDaniel put together the best round of the event in the second, shooting a 73 to finish with a total of 151; which was two shots better than the University of Texas at Dallas' Marissa Langer. 

McDaniel gained her advantages on Par 4s and 5s, finishing second in both with an average score of 4.32 on Par 4s and 5.00 on Par 5s, leading the field in Pars with 24. 

The Pirates finished fourth overall, recovering from a combined 333 in Round 1 to score a 320 in Round 2, which tied for the top mark of the second round with event winner Hardin-Simmons University. Southwestern tied for second in Birdies with 10, getting two each from McDaniel, Emily Campbell, Katie Dyo, and Valentina Olivieri. 

Olivieri also scored in the top 10 for the Pirates, finishing eighth with a score of 161 after scoring 81 and 80 in the first and second rounds.
