Women's golf opens at Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Southwestern women's golf team is taking on the top teams in the nation to close out spring break, competing in the Jekyll Island Collegiate in Jekyll Island, Ga. The Pirates are tied for eighth after the first round, 18 shots back from the leaders Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Emily Campbell led the Pirates with a three-over-par 75 on the day to finish in a tie for sixth place. Campbell posted two birdies and 11 pars in her opening round including five straight pars on the front nine. 

Leilani McDaniel shot four over in the first round, ending tied for 9th place. Her three birdies led Southwestern on the afternoon including two on the front nine.

Mikayla Miller posted an 83, Valentina Olivieri an 86 and Paige Greenan an 87 to round out the Pirate effort. 

Play continues tomorrow with the final round wrapping up on Sunday.
