Pirates Open Spring Season with Win at Linda Lowery Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - The Southwestern University women's golf team began their spring season with a big win on Tuesday afternoon, pulling away to claim the Linda Lowery Invitational with a two-round score of 657 (+97) after shooting a 331 (+51) at the Balcones Country Club in Austin.

Concrodia and Hardin-Simmons each shot 337s (+57) in round two with the Tornadoes placing second at 665 (+105) and the Cowgirls claiming third at 669 (+109). Centenary took fourth at 679 (+119) while Schreiner was fifth at 693 (+133).

Southwestern led the field in Par 3 scoring at +19 as well as Pars with 71 and Birdies with 10 total.

Sophomore Leilani McDaniel placed third in the event after shooting a 79 (+9) on Tuesday for a two-round score of 158 (+18). Fellow sophomore Emily Campbell finished fifth after shooting an 82 (+12) for a two-round score of 160 (+20).

Junior Valentina Olivieri-Puentes shot an 84 (+14) for a two-round score of 169 (+29) while senior Paige Greenan shot an 86 (+16) for a two-round score of 174 (+34). Freshman Julia Wofford rounded out the team scoring with a 92 (+22) for a total score of 176 (+36). Greenan led the field in Par 3 scoring at +1 and Birdies at four. 

Individually, junior Katie Dyo placed seventh with an 84 (+14) on Tuesday for a two-round score of 165 (+25) while junior Mikayla Miller finished ninth after an 89 (+19) for a two-round score of 166 (+26). Four different Pirate golfers placed in the top 10.

The Pirates are back in action beginning next Monday at Comanche Trace Golf Club in Kerrville for the Schreiner Spring Shootout, a two-round event.
