Pirates Win Al Jones Jr. Memorial; Three Individuals Place in Top 5

TYLER, Texas - The Southwestern University women's golf team got their 2017-18 season off with a bang as they were victorious at the Al Jones, Jr. Memorial with a score of 304 (+16) in the second round for a two round score of 613 (+37). 

Texas-Tyler placed second with a two round score of 631 (+55) while Hardin-Simmons placed third with a two round score of 647 (+71). Rounding out the top five was Cal Lutheran and Schreiner, who tied for fourth with a two round score of 656 (+80).

The Pirates led the field in Par 4 and Par 5 scoring at +20 and +7 while also leading the field in birdies with 17. Southwestern was also second in Pars with 97. Three Pirates placed in the top five individually in the event.

Junior Emily Campbell placed second after shooting a 74 (+2) on Tuesday with a two round score of 150 (+6). Junior Valentina Olivieri-Puentes placed third in the event after shooting a 77 (+5) for a two round scor eof 152 (+8). Sophomore Paige Greenan tied for fourth after shooting a 74 (+2) for a two round score of 154 (+10).

Campbell tied for the lead in Par 4 scoring at +2 and was second among the field in birdies with six. Olivieri-Puentes was second among the field in Par 5 scoring at -2.

Rounding out the scorers was sophomore Leilani McDaniel, who placed 11th with a score of 157 (+13) while junior Katie Dyo placed 17th with a two round score of 164 (+20).

Southwestern will take a few weeks off before returning to the course on October 16th and 17th as they travel to The Quarry Golf Club to compete at the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio.
