BLANCO, Texas - Bernice Leonard and Ali Walden helped pace the Southwestern University women's golf team to a second place finish Tuesday at the Lady Bulldog Classic.
Leonard improved by two strokes in Tuesday's second round to finish with an 81-79-160 to finish third. Helping the Pirates finish second in the team standings behind Mary Hardin-Baylor, Leonard was just three strokes behind Taylor O'Rear of UMHB winning the individual title with a 81-76-157.
Ali Walden earned a top five finish for the Pirates after firing a two-day score of 162.
All five individuals for the Pirates finished in the top 20 with the top four placing in the top 12. Keeley Coburn checked in at 10th with a two-day score of 170, while Lauren Boone finished 12th with a 172.
Southwestern finished 18 strokes behind Mary Hardin-Baylor who fired a 646. The Pirates and Crusaders ran away from the rest of the field as Concordia finished third behind the Pirates with a 702.
The women golfers take a week off before returning to the course Sept. 23-24 at the UMHB Fall Invitational.
