Women's Basketball Loses On The Road To Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates women's basketball team struggled in a 74-62 loss to the Schreiner University Mountaineers. 

Cecily Woolfolk led three Pirates in double figures with a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double, shooting 9-for-17 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line with two blocks and a steal. Zhazze Brown had 16 points on 7-fo-r 13 shooting and Lauren Fulenwider had 12, hitting 4-for-9 from deep. 

The Pirates shot 40.4 percent from the field but struggled from the free-throw line (52.2 percent), where they were outscored 23-12. Schreiner also out-rebounded Southwestern 51-36, pulling down 20 offensive rebounds to outscore the Pirates 10-4 in second-chance points. 

Sydney Williams led four Mountaineers in double figures with 16 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Zahra Cross had 14 points and five assists with four steals and Josline Hernandez had 11 points and four rebounds. Yasmine Arogunjo added 11 points off the bench on six shots. 

With the loss, the Pirates fell to 5-12 on the season and 3-7 in conference play. Southwestern will travel to face Trinity tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
