Pirates' Comeback Falls Short

SEGUIN, Texas – A fourth quarter comeback fell just short for the Southwestern University Pirates women's basketball team, losing 60-57 to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs.

The Pirates trailed 40-30 entering the fourth quarter when first year guard Lauren Fulenwider caught fire, scoring 16 of her game-high 19 points, hitting five of her six 3-pointers on the night. Cecily Woolfolk balanced Fulenwider's outside shooting with 14 points and five rebounds working in the middle. Reece Sandercock added 10 off the bench on 4-for-6 shooting for the Pirates.

Texas Lutheran forward Morgan Rodriguez scored 18 points with six rebounds on 8-for-12 shooting to lead the Bulldogs. Tara Molina had a near triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Heaven Dandridge added 12 points on six shots off the bench.

The Pirates shot 32.7 percent from the field with Fulenwider hitting all six of their 3-pointers. The Bulldogs shot 36.1 percent, hitting 9-for-27 from long range.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 3-9 on the season and 1-4 in conference play. Southwestern will return to action for a road game against Centenary on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and then again in Houston on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 p.m. against St. Thomas.
