Women's Basketball Struggles Offensively In Exhibition Before Season Opener

AUSTIN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's basketball team struggled offensively against NCAA Division II St. Edward's University, losing 58-37 in an exhibition game before Thursday's season opener.

Cecily Woolfolk was the lone Pirate to score in double figures, posting a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double while shooting 62.5 percent from the field. Naomi Brown had seven points and five rebounds on an efficient 3-for-4 shooting for Southwestern University.

Southwestern struggled from the field, hitting just 31 percent, including 1-for-8 from the 3-point line. They also committed 31 turnovers with 18 coming off steals, surrendering 24 points off turnovers.

Isabel Hernandez led a balanced St. Edward's offense that featured three players in double figures, scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds. Bailey Hill had 10 points and three assists and Maryam Wilcher had 10 points off the bench, hitting 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

The Pirates will officially open their season on Thursday, Nov. 15 on the road against Hardin-Simmons University. Their home opener will be against Howard Payne on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2:00 p.m.
