GEORGETOWN - The Southwestern University women's basketball team could not overcome an early first half deficit as they fell to the 24th-ranked Trinity Tigers, 79-55, on Saturday evening at the Robertson Center.

It was a tough shooting night for the Pirates, going 16 of 58 (28%) from the field, 3 of 16 (19%) from behind the arc, and 20 of 35 (57%) from the line. Meanwhile, for Trinity, they shot 30 of 70 (43%) from the field, 6 of 16 (38%) from deep, and 13 of 23 (57%) at the line.

The Tigers outrebounded the Pirates 46-45 and forced 20 Southwestern turnovers to only 13 on the other end. Trinity had a 34-22 advantage in points in the paint and a 21-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

Southwestern jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period, but Trinity responded with a 20-4 run to close the quarter, leading 20-9. The Tigers increased their lead to 18 in the second quarter, eventually taking a 37-20 lead into half.

The Pirates got the game down to 12 in the third quarter, but the Tigers got their lead back out to 17 going into the fourth and pushed it out to as much as 28, pulling away for the win.

Junior Tori Carraway scored 12 points to lead the way with six reobunds, a steal, and a block, while sophomores Cecily Woolfolk and Zhazze Brown each scored 10 points. Woolfolk pulled down eight boards while Brown had a pair of steals.

Junior Kelsey Faykus had five points and seven rebounds off the bench while senior Madison Edwards had three assists. Senior Brooke Swift had two assists and two steals.

Trinity was led by Micah Weaver, scoring 14 points while Abby Holland and Emily Daniel each scored 13 points.

Southwestern falls to 5-10 on the season and 1-3 in SCAC play. They will return to action on Friday as they head to Colorad Springs for a SCAC matchup with Colorado College and 8:30 PM.
