Woolfolk leads Pirates to win over McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - Sophomore Cecily Woolfolk posted 24 points to lead the Pirates to a 61-58 win over McMurry University Saturday afternoon.

SU started hot with 21 first quarter points while holding the War Hawks to just 12 points. The Pirates held a nine point advantage at the break but McMurry continued to chip away at the lead as they pulled within six points with 4:22 to play in the third. Noel Pratts stopped the run as she drained a layup and hit the ensuing free throw after being fouled on the play.

McM hit the final basket of the third to pull within five heading into the final frame. The War Hawks took the lead with 2:47 to go in the game on a pair of free throws by Sham Hunter. Erin Toro answered with a jumper and Woolfolk followed to put SU on top again, giving them a lead they would not lose again.

Southwestern pulled out the win while shooting 45 percent from the field and just nine percent from three point range. SU was +14 on the boards despite committing 26 turnovers.

The Pirates move to 4-6 on the year and return to action on January 2nd at the University of Texas Dallas.
