Woolfolk, Pratts Set Career-Highs in Loss to Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Sophomore Cecily Woolfolk scored 31 points to go with 14 rebounds while freshman Noel Pratts scored 22 points as both earned career-highs in an 81-74 loss to Howard Payne on Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.

The Pirates shpt 55% percent from the field, but two key factors to the loss were turnovers, with 30, and free throws, only going 19 of 33 (58%) from the line. Howard Payne only shot 37% from the field but connected on eight 3-pointers while only turning it over 10 times and going 19 of 27 from the line (70%). Southwestern outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 46-32, but Howard Payne scored 26 points off turnovers.

The two teams were even throughout the first quater as they were tied at 20 a piece before Howard Payne opened up a 10 point lead in the second quarter thanks to a 16-6 run. The Pirates outscored the Yellow Jackets 13-6 in the final three minutes to cut the deficit all the way down to three going into the break.

However, the third quarter was all Howard Payne, outscoring Southwestern 14-5 as they took a 56-44 lead into the final quarter. Southwestern played catch up in the final 10 minutes, but eventually fell shot, 81-74.

Woolfolk went 10 of 18 from the field and 10 of 16 from the line. She pulled down five boards in the game to lead the way for SU. Pratts was efficient from the field, finishing 11 of 15 on the night. Junior Tori Carraway scored seven points to go with six rebounds.

Southwestern moves to 2-4 overall and will hit the road again next Saturday as they head to Belton for a 4 PM matchup against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
