Southwestern late rally falls short Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates put together a run late in the fourth quarter to pull within four points but were unable to steal the win, falling 77-73 to Austin College

A chilly start offensively for both teams led to a low scoring first quarter that saw the Pirates down seven, 15-8. Scoring picked up in the second quarter but SU was unable to make a substantial run, falling  behind 38-22 at halftime.

Cecilly Woolfolk's three with 3:09 on the clock sparked the late game rally that saw the Pirates come within four points, 68-64, with 2:06 remaining. Transition baskets allowed AC to maintain a lead as the game wound to a close.   

Wollfolk led the Pirates with 20 points while Madison Edwards added 18 and Kelsey Faykus 10. Southwestern was out-rebounded 45-38 in the loss.

SU drops to 8-12 overall and 5-4 in the SCAC. They return to the road to face league-leading Trinity on Friday night in San Antonio. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
