Third quarter blitz propels Pirates to 75-65 win over Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - After trailing at halftime Southwestern posted 31 points in the third quarter to set up a 75-65 win over Centenary College Friday night.

The Pirates were down seven at halftime, 34-27, but then embarked on a 13-4 run midway through the third quarter to tie the game at 42 with four minutes to go in the frame. Another run to end the third put SU up nine, 58-49, heading into the fourth.

Southwestern pressed on, extending their lead to as many as 13 and held off the Ladies the rest of the way to secure the win.

Tori Carraway posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Madison Edwards added in 17 points and Olivia Podaras 12.

Southwestern shot 42.9% from the floor and three point range and were +19 on the boards.

The Pirates improve to 7-10 on the year and 4-2 in conference play, returning to action on Sunday at noon to face Austin College in Sherman.
