Pirates defeat TLU in lopsided win

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern won every aspect of the game in a 71-49 victory over Texas Lutheran University, handing the Bulldogs their first conference loss of the year.

The Pirates shocked TLU early and jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game. By the end of the quarter Southwestern was up by 14, 24-10, and extended their lead to 20 by halftime, 44-24.

It was much of the same in the second half and Southwestern was never threatened in the final 20 minutes, cruising to the win.

SU was relentless defensively and owned the boards, winning the battle 61-39 with 22 offensive rebounds.

Cecily Woolfolk continued her dominance in the paint with 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Pirates in both categories. Madison Edwards added 13 points and Olivia Podaras 10.

Southwestern improves to 6-10 on the year and 3-2 in the SCAC and return to the road to face Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana on Friday at 5:30 pm.
