Pirates edged out in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons made 6-8 free throws in the final minute to fend off Southwestern 67-51 Thursday night. 

It was a tight contest the entire way with six ties and nine lead changes through 40 minutes of play. HSU had a slight advantage at halfitme 28-26. Both teams posted 12 points in the third quarter before opening up the scoring in the fourth, but SU was never able to regain control of the contest as the Cowgirls secured the win from the free throw line. 

Madison Edwards led with 18 points while Tori Carraway added 12. Carraway and Kelsey Faykus pulled down eight rebounds as Southwestern out-rebounded HSU 44-43. 

Southwestern (2-6) returns to action at home on Tuesday, hosting Hanover at 2 pm in the Robertson Center.
