Southwestern turnovers lead to road loss

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Southwestern shot well from the field, just under 50%, but gave Howard Payne 33 points off 26 turnovers as the Pirates dropped their non-conference contest 82-67 Tuesday night.

Southwestern fell behind early and went into halftime down by nine, 42-33.

Following the break the Pirates chipped away at the lead and cut it to four, 47-43, to force a Howard Payne timeout with 5:29 left in the third quarter. SU wasn't able to keep the run alive, however, as HPU pushed the lead back to 14, 63-49, heading into the fourth.

Southwestern held the Yellow Jackets to just 39% from the floor on the night but were outrebounded 41-37 as HPU got 23 second chance points.

SU drops to 1-5 on the year and remain on the road to face Division I Lamar University on Saturday at noon.
