Hardin-Simmons spoils Southwestern's home opener on Saturday, 62-57

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Tori Carraway and Olivia Podaras both scored double figures, but Hardin-Simmons spoiled Southwestern's home opener with a 62-57 victory Saturday night at the Robertson Center.

The Pirates (0-2) trailed 29-27 at the half. The Cowgirls (2-0) opened the third quarter with a 16-6 run to increase their advantage to 45-33.

After facing an eight-point deficit at the start of the final quarter, Southwestern reeled off a 13-6 run, which cut Hardin-Simmons' lead to 54-53 with 3:30 to play.

Carraway's layup two minutes later again trimmed the lead to one point (58-57), but it was the last points the Bucs scored on the night. The Cowgirls received a layup and a pair of free throws to clinch the win.

Carraway finished with game highs of 17 points and nine rebounds. Podaras chipped in with 14 points and six boards.

The Pirates will travel to Austin on Tuesday, Nov. 22, to face Concordia Texas. The non-conference tilt is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
