Fourth-quarter comeback gives Southwestern 57-51 victory over Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern women's basketball team outscored Schreiner 21-10 in the fourth quarter en route to earning a 57-51 victory Friday night at the Schreiner Event Center.

The Pirates (5-10, 2-2 SCAC) trailed 41-36 heading into the final period, but erupted for a 9-0 run to open the quarter.

Southwestern tied the contest mid-way through its run, as Audrey Garcia hit a free throw with 7:42 left. Just over a minute later, Kelsey Faykus buried two shots from the charity stripe to give the Pirates the lead for good.

The Mountaineers (4-9, 2-1 SCAC) trimmed SU's lead to 51-49 with 1:29 remaining, but the Pirates responded with a 6-0 run to clinch the win.

Tori Carraway logged her first double-double after posting game highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Faykus chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Pirates will head to San Antonio Saturday to face No. 17 Trinity (11-3, 2-1 SCAC). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
