Women’s basketball guaranteed at least share of title
With an 80-65 win over Centenary College on Sunday, Southwestern has guaranteed themselves at least a share of the regular season conference title and secured a first round bye in the SCAC Championship in two weeks.

Southwestern sits at 13-11 on the year and 11-2 in the SCAC and needs to win at Texas Lutheran on Friday in Seguin for the final game of the regular season to be named outright champions.

Centenary was tough in the first half and lead by as many as 11, 30-19, with four minutes to go in the half. SU closed the half on a 10-2 run and trailed by three, 32-29 at the break.

Head Coach Kerri Brinkoeter got her group refocused in the locker room and the Pirates scored the first seven points in the second half to take the lead. Southwestern never trailed again and extended their lead to 20, 73-53 with 3:52 remaining.

The Pirates shot 47.7% from the floor and 45.5% from three point range while Centenary went just 36.8% from the field and 37.5% from long range. Audrey Garcia and Madison Eschle led with 14 points each while Jordan Owens and Olivia Podaras chipped in 11 each. Centenary's Jessica Bruti led all scorers with 17 points.

Southwestern was outrebounded 38-42 as Annie Bourne grabbed 13 boards to lead SU and Briana Edwards 15 to lead the Ladies. Valerie Logan had a strong game at the point position with seven assists and four steals with just two turnovers.

All eyes will be on Seguin on Friday night as the Pirates and Bulldogs battle for first place. Southwestern won the first match-up on January 3rd 72-69. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
