Defense keeps Pirates in first with easy win over Colorado

Southwestern held Colorado College to just 19 second half points to post a 70-44 win in Colorado Springs on Friday night to remain in first place in the SCAC.

The Pirates led the entirety of the first half but held just a slight advantage, leading 32-25 at the break.

Audrey Garcia opened the second half with five straight points for the Pirates and the Pirates posted a 15-4 lead to go up by 18 with 12 minutes to play.

Colorado never pulled within striking distance the rest of the way as Southwestern cruised to the win.

Southwestern shot 41.2% from the floor and 46.7% from three point range while holding Colorado College to just 32.8% from the field and 21.4% from long range on their home court.

Jordan Owens led the Pirates with 17 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor and 1-2 from three point range. Annie Bourne added in 10 points to eclipse the 1000 point career mark. Colorado College was led by Wirth with 15 points.

Southwestern improves to 12-11 on the year and 10-2 in the SCAC after the win while Colorado College falls to 2-22 overall and 2-11 in conference play. The Pirates remain on the road to face Centenary College on Sunday at noon.
