With six assists in SU's 78-55 win over Centenary College on Saturday, senior guard Valerie Logan set a new SU record for career assists with 374.

She nears the top ten in the SCAC in career assists. The current #10 position is 385 held by Rosemary Boner of Rhodes College.

Centenary came to play and jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the first three minutes, but SU responded with a 12-0 to lead 14-8 with 14:20 remaining in the half.

Behind the leadership and offensive dominance of Logan, Southwestern posted a 15 point lead, 37-22, heading into the halftime break. Logan posted 12 points and five assists in the first half to lead the charge while Annie Bourne grabbed nine boards.

Southwestern was strong as a team offensively, shooting 41% from the field and 43.8% from three point range, but their defense was even more impressive as they held the Ladies to 29.7% from the floor and 0% from long range and zero free throws.

Four minutes into the second half the Pirates' lead had ballooned to 20 and then 34 by the halfway mark as SU tightened up defensively. When all was said and done Southwestern had closed the game with the 78-55 win to remain atop the SCAC with a perfect 3-0 record.

Southwestern shot just under 40% from the floor and three point range for the game but held Centenary to 32.4% from the field and 23.1% from three point range while forcing 16 turnovers.

Logan led the Pirates with 12 points on 4-5 shooting from three point range. Bourne added in 11 and a game-high 15 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action. Madison Eschle added in 10 as did Olivia Podaras.

Now 5-9 on the year and 3-0 in conference play, Southwestern hits the road for the first time in conference, taking on Trinity on Friday night in San Antonio.
