Pirates shocked in SCAC Quarterfinal

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas had an answer for every run the Pirates put together to knock SU out of the SCAC Tournament, 66-58.

Dallas proved early they were gunning for an upset as they led 10-5 in the first five minutes, but Southwestern quickly regained control and led by four, 16-12, with 8:51 to go in the half.

Dallas fought back and took a one point lead into the break, 27-26, after back to back layups by Christy Allen.

UD opened the second half with a big three from Sammi Tso and Tso added another three at the 15:12 mark to put Southwestern down eight, 41-33.

Each time the Pirates made a run in the second half the University of Dallas seemed to have the answer.

Chelsea Leeder's three with 5:27 to play pulled SU within two, 54-52, and seemed to be the kick-start the Pirates needed to make a final push for the win. Just as they had all game, UD answered with an 8-0 run to put Southwestern down ten, 62-52, with 2:53 remaining.

The Pirates just couldn't get the ball to fall offensively as UD did just enough from the free throw line to secure the win.

Southwestern shot 36.2% from the floor and 28.6% from three point range while UD was 37.9% from the field and 40% from long range. Leeder posted 14 points while Olivia Podaras led with 15 off the bench. All five UD starters were in double figures, led by Tso's 13 points.

Southwestern ends the season at 13-13 overall while Leeder ends her career with 1635 points, placing her in 8th place on the all-time leaderboard in the SCAC.
