Late run for Pirates falls short against Tigers

GEORGETOWN – Chelsea Leeder scored 24 points but it was not enough as the Southwestern University women's basketball team fell to Trinity University 77-69 in SCAC action from the Robertson Center.

Leeder scored 13 points in the second however she was countered by Trinity's Anecia Richardson who posted 24 second half points to help the Tigers comeback from a 10-point deficit.

Southwestern took a 36-29 lead into intermission as the Pirates edged the Tigers in nearly every statistical category.

After an Annie Bourne free-throw and a Leeder lay-in to start the second half, the Pirates went cold from the field.

Trinity answered with 17-0 run over to take a 46-39 lead at the 11:56 mark in the second half.

Back-to-back free-throws from Brianna Guevara and Bourne momentarily stopped the Tigers run. However, Southwestern shot just 21.4 percent from the field as Trinity shot a blistering 58.6 percent to control the final 10 minutes.

With the loss, Southwestern fell to 13-12 on the year and 9-5 in league  play and moved in to the fifth seed for next week's conference tournament. The Tigers clinched the No. 2 seed and closed out the regular season 18-7 and 10-4 in SCAC.
