Pirates fall in final road game

SEGUIN, Texas – An uncharacteristically tough offensive night led to a 70-56 loss to Texas Lutheran University on Saturday night.

The first half was tight until TLU went up by 11, 18-7, with 9:41 to play in the first half. With just under to play in the half SU found themselves trailing by 22, 36-14 and the lead held up as the Pirates headed into the locker room down 22, 42-20.

Southwestern continued to battle but were never able to pull close enough to make a run for the win as they fell 70-56

Southwestern shot 30% from the floor and just 18.2% form three point range and was led by Chelsea Leeder's 15 points while Jordan Owens added in 14.

Annie Bourne dominated the boards, ending the game just three rebounds shy of an SU record with 21 as the Pirates won the rebounding battle 54-45.

Chelsea Leeder is securely in the top 10 in the SCAC at 1597 after the weekend.

Southwestern falls to 13-11 on the year and 9-4 in the SCAC after the loss, falling into fourth place in the conference with one weekend to go. They host Trinity University on Friday at home to close out the regular season.
