Leeder moves into SCAC top 10 in career scoring in huge Pirate win

KERRVILLE, Texas – With 14 points on Friday night, senior Chelsea Leeder broke into the top 10 in the SCAC for career scoring, sitting at 1582. 

A big surge at the end of the first half sent Southwestern into the locker room up nine, 35-26, after trailing most of the period.  The Mountaineers had the lead as late as 6:24, 25-24, but SU rattled off an 11-1 run to take a solid lead into the break.

By just over one minute into the second half Southwestern had pushed their lead to 14, 40-26, on Chelsea Leeder's three. The Pirates' domination continued as SU embarked on a 26-12 run in 14 minutes to lead 61-36 with 6:11 to go. Southwestern continued to roll as they closed out the game 70-47.

Chelsea Leeder led the way with 14 points while Madison Eschle added 13 and Cara Sheffer and Audrey Garcia 10 each. The Pirates shot 48.3% from the floor and 42.1% from three point range. Schreiner was led by Lindsey Peterson's 17 points while the Mountaineers were held to just 27.9% from the floor.

Southwestern committed 16 turnovers but pulled down 48 boards, led by Annie Bourne with 13.

Now 13-10 on the year and 9-3 in the SCAC, Southwestern sits in third place in the conference and head to Seguin to face league-leading Texas Lutheran on Saturday at 6 p.m.
